EVERETT – With candidates hitting the streets today for a final few hours of campaigning, more than one-third of Snohomish County voters have already cast their vote.
Snohomish County election officials expect to have 125,000 absentee ballots returned by the end of the day, more than half of what was sent to voters. Countywide there are 352,238 registered voters, of which 218,548 were sent absentee ballots.
Turnout for Tuesday’s election could hit 85 percent of all registered voters, election officials said.
Polls are open 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Snohomish County has 1,000 electronic voting machines that will be deployed at 143 polling stations. County election officials expect observers at many polling places and in some cases lawyers retained by the Democratic and Republican parties will monitor the vote at polling stations.
Election officials predict there will be lines of voters at different times of the day. The busiest times, they said, are expected to be 7-9 a.m. and 4-8 p.m.
People who are in line but have not voted by 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote. If there is any dispute about a voter’s eligibility, they will be allowed to cast a provisional ballot, and their status will be determined following the election.
If you have any questions about where to vote or about your eligibility, call the Snohomish County elections office at 425-388-3444.
