EVERETT A crane that was operating on the shoulder of a northbound I-5 lane tipped over at about 2 a.m. today, state Department of Transportation spokeswoman Connie Lewis said.
There were no injuries as a result of the incident, she said.
The cranes boom fell down an embankment and landed in a residential back yard in Everetts Lowell neighborhood, Lewis said. The cab of the crane remained at the top of the embankment, on the shoulder of the freeway. The crane did not break apart.
“It was being operated by a very experienced crane operator,” Lewis said. “We dont know yet why it happened.”
The boom crushed a small shed, DOT spokeswoman Victoria Tobin said.
Investigators are determining the cause of the incident. Lewis said the crane will most likely remain as it fell until nightfall today, when the northbound lanes of I-5 will close for construction.
“Were not moving it now because we dont want to distract traffic,” she said.
