BROWNSVILLE, Texas — The former aircraft carrier USS Ranger left Bremerton on March 5 and is expected to reach a South Texas shipyard this weekend as the vessel faces the scrapyard.
The Brownsville Herald reported the Ranger could arrive at the Port of Brownsville by Saturday.
The Ranger is being towed about 16,000 nautical miles to Texas. International Shipbreaking Ltd. has been hired to dismantle the former U.S. warship.
The Ranger was commissioned in 1957 and was active from the U.S. war in Vietnam to Operation Desert Storm, the first Persian Gulf War. The carrier was decommissioned in 1993 at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
