MEDINA — Democratic Congresswoman Suzan DelBene of Medina on Tuesday was named chair of the House Democratic Campaign Committee, putting her at the helm of the party’s efforts to regain the House majority in 2024.
DelBene, 60, was re-elected last month to a sixth term in the 1st Congressional District, which includes a swath of Snohomish County. She is the current chair of the centrist New Democrat Coalition.
Incoming House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York, chose DelBene. The full Democratic caucus must ratify his choice.
In the 2022 midterm elections, the Republicans won narrow control of the House. They will hold 222 seats to Democrats 212 when the new Congress is seated next month. There is one vacancy, in Virginia, to be filled in a February special election.
