GRANITE FALLS – Detectives with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office continued Friday to collect evidence in the suspected dismemberment of a woman.
The woman’s name was not released by the medical examiner.
Investigators believe, however, she was the girlfriend of Michael Ray Faler and died sometime last week.
Faler, 39, was charged with second-degree murder and first-degree robbery Thursday in Snohomish County Superior Court. He was arrested in a stolen car in Fresno, Calif.
Faler was wanted in connection with the woman’s death as well as a carjacking in Stanwood on Monday night.
Faler told his family he dismembered the woman, 33, and threw her over an embankment near their home in Granite Falls, court records said.
The family told detectives they found bloody clothes and rags in a trash bin.
Investigators later found human remains in a trash bag and at two different locations in the Granite Falls area, according to court papers.
It will be up to the medical examiner to determine how the woman died.
