ARLINGTON — A stubborn blaze north of Arlington on Sunday remains under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office.
Firefighters were called to the 20-acre property along Kunde Road on Sunday afternoon and again in the evening after the fire kicked back up. Two 1970s-era mobile homes and multiple outbuildings were destroyed, said Fire Chief John Cermak with the North County Regional Fire Authority. No injuries were reported.
The two-alarm fire was fueled by a large amount of debris on the property, along with high winds, the chief said. The firefighting also was complicated by a lack of hydrants in the area. Both mobile homes had walls built around them, and flames got trapped in the void.
“There was tons of void space,” Cermak said. “That was part of the challenge.”
Homeowners told authorities they suspect that a problem with a propane fireplace started the fire. An exact cause has not been determined. People who were living in the mobile homes now are staying elsewhere on the property.
At one point, 49 firefighters from throughout Snohomish County were on scene, Cermak said. Crews came from as far as Gold Bar.
