EVERETT — A driver is in custody for investigation of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, and a 66-year-old Lynnwood man died Friday evening in a four-vehicle crash near Sunday Lake on Highway 532.
Around 4:14 p.m. Friday, the Washington State Patrol said a white Mitsubishi Mirage and a white commercial belt trailer truck were traveling east on Highway 532, while two motorcycles — a gray Indian Challenger and a blue Indian Chief — were headed west.
Troopers said the Mirage stopped abruptly for traffic at 28th Northwest, approximately 6 miles east of Stanwood, and the truck entered the left turn lane. Troopers said the Mirage turned in front of the commercial truck. The truck struck the Mirage, pushing the car into the westbound lanes where it struck both motorcycles, including Blair Hochstrasser, who was driving the Indian Challenger motorcycle.
Hochstrasser was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital, according to a press release. A 54-year-old woman riding with him was taken to Providence Medical Center Everett with undisclosed injuries.
In total, five people were transported to area hospitals. The highway was closed for several hours during the investigation.
A second collision happened as a result of the backup from the original crash, Harding said. As a result, a driver was arrested for driving under the influence.
