BENTON CITY — The Washington State Patrol says the driver of a pilot car killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 82 was a 32-year-old Georgia man.
Troopers say a car driven by Stephen L. Roberts, of Doerun, Ga., was hit from behind Wednesday and pushed into the big rig he was following. Roberts’ car burst into flames soon after it hit the big truck.
A 25-year-old Outlook man, Timothy Haley, was driving the 2002 International tow truck that collided with Roberts’ car. Haley was treated at a Richland hospital.
The driver of the tractor-trailer rig and his wife were unhurt. The big rig was hauling a transformer to Seattle.
The Tri-City Herald reported that troopers are still investigating the crash.
