EVERETT — The city of Edmonds appointed police officer William Morris on June 17 to serve as the city’s liaison with South County Fire.
In April, Edmonds residents voted to annex into the regional fire authority, effective June 1. Morris will serve as a non-voting member of the South County Fire Board of Commissioners.
“I am committed to building strong regional partnerships and ensuring the needs of Edmonds residents are effectively represented as the city transitions into the RFA,” Morris said in a press release Friday. “I look forward to working collaboratively to enhance public safety and community services throughout the region.”
Morris is president of the Edmonds Police Officers Association. He’s worked as an Edmonds police officer for six years and is currently assigned to the traffic unit. Before his law enforcement career, Morris served as an aviation electronics technician in the U.S. Navy. He then worked as a commodities specialist at Puget Sound Energy.
“We are excited for (Morris) to join us and give a direct voice to the people of Edmonds in how your emergency services are provided,” said Jim Kenny, chair of the South County Fire Board of Commissioners, in the release. “(Morris’) public safety experience offers a unique and welcomed perspective on important decisions impacting emergency response.”
In November, Edmonds residents will vote in three South County Fire commissioner races. Once South County Fire redraws its district lines to include Edmonds, Edmonds residents will be eligible to run for the board of commissioners. South County Fire expects the redistricting process to begin the first quarter of 2026, spokesperson Christie Veley wrote in the release.
