EDMONDS — Applicants are sought for the City Council seat that became vacant with the Nov. 9 death of Peggy Pritchard Olson.
Olson was in the midst of her second four-year term when she died of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a neurological disease commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
The deadline for submitting applications is 4:30 p.m. Dec. 31. Applications should be dropped off or mailed to the City Clerk’s office, 121 Fifth Ave. N.
Candidate interviews are scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 12, and the council will review applicants during the Jan. 19 council meeting.
Council President D.J. Wilson said he opted to have the council vote on the new appointee in January so Councilwoman-elect Adrienne Fraley-Monillas, who this month won the seat held by Ron Wambolt, can participate in the selection.
“Rather than have a lame-duck council make that decision, we’ll have the most recently elected council make that decision,” he said.
The person appointed will serve the remainder of Pritchard Olson’s term through 2011.
The seven council members are elected to four-year terms and serve all residents. Council members earn $600 a month and $50 per meeting to a maximum of eight meetings each month or $1,000.
