Railroad gates stuck in the downward position have been lifted, allowing Washington State Ferries to resume service at the Edmonds terminal.
The ferry system issued a rider alert at 4:17 p.m. to warn commuters to expect delays due to the problem. Burlington Northern was notified and lifted the gates shortly after 5 p.m.
Traffic cameras along Highway 104 leading to the ferry terminal showed cars backed up for miles while the gates were closed. Signs warned drivers to expect a 90-minute wait.
