Electrical issues at Edmonds ferry terminal suspends service

Ferry service from Edmonds-Kingston returned at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday after an issue with the transfer span halted sailings.

EDMONDS — The Edmonds to Kingston ferry route was briefly suspended Tuesday morning due to electrical issues, state officials said.

The closure stemmed from electrical issues with the transfer span at the Edmonds terminal, according to Washington State Ferries. The transfer span is a moveable bridge connecting the ferry terminal to the boat.

The suspension comes after heavy winds Monday night led to treacherous trips for ferry riders across Western Washington.

Washington State Ferries reported the route was suspended until further notice. But at 10:20 a.m., the agency announced service would return with the 11:05 a.m. sailing.

Technicians were at the terminal Tuesday to address the problem. Future updates can be found at wsdot.wa.gov/travel/washington-state-ferries.
