Occupation: Business owner, Hatloes Decorating Center

Political experience: None

Work experience: Financial planning and budgeting skills, business management and communication expertise, good listening skills, the ability to understand and solve problems, and working knowledge of laws, regulations and tax issues.

Personal experience: Everett Area Chamber of Commerce board for six years and chairman for two years. While in this position I’ve worked with the Economic Development Council, South County Chamber, city of Everett, Snohomish County executive, state agencies and legislative representatives. Special Events Center Feasibility and Selection committees. Number of industry and corporate advisory boards. President of the National Decorating Products Association. Past president of the WDPA (nine Western states). Past president of The National Association of Flooring Retailers, past president of Puget Sound Decorating Association, board member and small-business chairman (Washington Retail Association), and Rotary member (Paul Harris Fellow).

Top 3 issues: 1. Public safety: Requires ongoing capital investments. With the right combination of management and planning, we can provide citizens with first-class police and fire protection. 2. Economic development: I will be a steady advocate for entrepreneurship. 3. Quality of life: I support our schools, parks and neighborhoods. Working together with community partnerships, we can help ensure that growth is balanced.

Why voters should pick me: I bring a practical approach to decision-making that emphasizes common sense and accessibility. I will bridge the gap between listening and getting things done. Born and raised in Everett, I care about its future and pledge to represent all citizens.

Fun fact: Hobbies include fishing, travel, music, gardening.

Dan Warnock

Occupation: President of Dan Warnock Insurance, Inc.

Political experience: Four years as a council member. Actively involved in transportation issues, public safety, office of neighborhoods, Everett Senior Center, Everett Cultural Commission, park improvements and acquisitions of open space. Also involved with Snohomish County Tomorrow, Association of Washington Cities, National League of Cities Infrastructure and Telecommunication Policy Committee. I’ve been involved with the Endangered Species Act, water quality, opportunities for business and helping the private sector create family-wage jobs.

Personal experience: Attended most planning commission hearings and city council meetings before being elected. Participated in Everett’s Comprehensive Plan. Chairman of neighborhood association, member of council of neighborhoods. In business 25 years in Everett, and was in Teamsters Union.

Top 3 issues: 1. Transportation: I will continue to work with county, state and federal governments to implement long-lasting solutions. 2. Public safety: Building a safe and healthy environment in which to live. 3. Quality of life: Building a complete community, so all can enjoy living and working here.

Why voters should pick me: I listen to my constituents, and have made and will continue to make Everett my top priority. This is not a promise – this is a fact. I have a proven record the past four years. If you want a hard-working, independent council member who asks tough questions, then “Dan’s your Man.”

Roy Sykes

Occupation: Deputy director, Baker Street Ministries and part-time faculty at Edmonds Community College.

Political experience: Secretary of 38th Legislative District Democratic Committee and Everett 15 Precinct Committee Officer. Page at the 1972 Democratic National Convention in Miami, Fla.

Work experience: I have 25 years experience as a teacher, counselor and social services agency administrator. I have supervised as many as 40 employees. I have 20 years experience negotiating and implementing federal, state, county, city and private foundation contracts for social services. Currently, I manage an annual operations budget in excess of $2 million. I have 15 years experience on state, county and private agency boards and councils.

Personal experience: Serve on the board of directors for the Snohomish County Center for Battered Women and Potters House Youth Facility. I am an Everett Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, and a member of the state Region 3 HIV Planning Council. Formerly, I’ve served on the Governor’s Council on Substance Abuse, as a vice-chair of the Snohomish County Community Services Advisory Council, and a member of CPS Community Protection Team. I am a veteran and union member.

Top 3 issues: 1. Quality of life: We must retain skilled city workers in all city departments. I support fair wages and 200 percent cost-of-living increases for city workers. 2. Transportation: I support a true rapid-transit system with stops at strategic points that maximizes service to Everett. The Everett vs. Community Transit situation must be resolved. 3. Human needs: I support programs that will meet the fundamental needs of children, domestic violence victims, homeless people, etc.

Why voters should pick me: My 25 years experience in business and social services qualifies me to work for you. My commitment is to children, church and community. I always put my money where my heart is. If elected, I will donate half of my council salary to agencies that help people living in Everett.
