EVERETT — A new northbound carpool lane along I-5 is expected to open this morning, thanks to the nice weather, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The new lane that runs six miles between U.S. 2 and Highway 526 is expected to save commuters eight minutes as they travel through Everett on I-5. The state already opened a new southbound carpool lane along the freeway.
The Everett I-5 widening project is scheduled to wrap up this summer. The $263 million work is considered the third-most expensive highway project in the state’s history.
