EVERETT — An Everett man admitted Tuesday that he attacked a teen with a knife and killed him.
Dustin Robert Powell, 21, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder with a deadly weapon in Snohomish County Superior Court in the death of James Carlberg, 18. Powell faces up to 20 years in prison.
A 16-year-old co-defendant, Coleman Wall, pleaded guilty in July to second-degree murder in juvenile court. He could be held in juvenile detention until he is 21.
Carlberg had been in a long-standing dispute with Wall, prosecutors said in court records. Carlberg was attempting to walk away from an argument with Wall and Powell in December when he was attacked, according to charging papers.
Powell ran up behind Carlberg and punched him in the back of the head. Wall struck Carlberg in the head with a club. Then Powell thrust the knife at Carlberg, stabbing him in the chest. The blade penetrated his heart.
Powell is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 30.
