EVERETT — A man was sentenced Thursday to 2 1/2 years in prison for a deadly crash on I-5 in March.
Enedino Margarito Mendez, 21, of Everett, pleaded guilty July 30 to vehicular homicide.
Marcos Lopez-Silva, 20, of Everett, was killed in the March 22 crash.
Prosecutors alleged that Margarito Mendez was drunk when he lost control of his pickup truck on I-5 near Everett and smashed into a large truck parked on the side of the freeway.
Lopez-Silva was riding in the passenger seat of Margarito Mendez’s pickup. He died at the scene.
Police found empty beer bottles in the pickup truck. Margarito Mendez had a blood-alcohol level of .15 — almost twice the legal limit.
Immigration authorities also have a hold on Margarito Mendez. He is expected to be deported to Mexico once he is released from prison.
