EVERETT – Mayor Ray Stephanson, city engineer Dave Davis and city director of governmental affairs Pat McClain were in Washington, D.C., on Monday and Tuesday to push for approval of federal funding for several transportation projects.
The three met with four Democratic members of the state’s congressional delegation: Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray, and U.S. Reps. Rick Larsen and Norm Dicks.
The city is asking for:
* $3.5 million for an improved I-5 interchange at 41st Street.
* $3 million to $3.5 million for widening and other improvements to E. Marine View Drive from I-5 to Broadway.
* $3 million for a pedestrian and bicycle trail along the Snohomish River and a bridge connecting the trail to Henry M. Jackson Park.
City officials also met at the Pentagon with Undersecretary of the Navy Dionel Aviles to lobby on behalf of Naval Station Everett. The Pentagon is considering whether to close some of its bases, and for months city officials have been touting the location and other benefits of the Everett base.
