EVERETT — Everett police arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal pedestrian collision in July, where a pedestrian was allegedly dragged for over 10 blocks in Everett.
Around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Everett Police Traffic Safety Unit arrested a man in his 60s suspected of being the driver in a fatal pedestrian collision in the 500 block of West Casino Road, according to an Everett Police Department press release.
Around 4:38 a.m. July 27, officers responded to reports of a person lying on the side of the road in the 8500 block of 7th Avenue Southeast in Everett. Upon arrival, officers located an injured man. Everett Fire Department attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the press release said.
The suspect allegedly hit the victim near Casino Road and 5th Avenue before continuing to drive after the collision, dragging the victim about 10 blocks further down the road, the release said.
Detectives collected evidence from community members, video from surrounding businesses and data from the department’s FLOCK camera system, the release said.
On July 29, investigators identified the suspect vehicle and a potential driver, the release said. Police impounded the suspect vehicle.
On Tuesday, officers booked the man into Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of felony hit and run.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the manner and cause of death, as well as positive identification of the deceased. Everett police have been in contact with his family, the release said.
Law enforcement is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Once the investigation is completed, the case will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review. No charges have been filed at this time, the release said.
