Everett’s funky coffee shop shuts its doors

I walked past Zippy’s Java Lounge at 1804 Hewitt Ave., this afternoon. The door was shut, the lights were off and Zippy the Dalmatian was curled up mournfully in an armchair inside.

Owner Marilyn Rosenberg confirmed Zippy’s shutdown last week after the landlord turned off the lights. She couldn’t afford the rent and the landlord didn’t want to charge less, she said. She plans to move to a new space on Broadway and re-open under a different name in a few weeks.
