TACOMA — Tacoma police are warning of a man pretending to be a Pierce County Sheriff’s deputy on residents’ voicemails and demanding money to prevent arrests.
The News Tribune of Tacoma reported that a man has been leaving voice messages identifying himself as deputy Greg Allen and asking the homeowner to call a number about a courthouse matter. If the homeowner calls, the man then tells them to buy a prepaid card worth $6,500 and deliver it to a specific place. He says if the money is not delivered, the person will be arrested on a warrant.
Police say there is no Greg Allen with the Sheriff’s Office and that law enforcement agencies do not call people to collect money.
