COUPEVILLE — Ferry service between Port Townsend and Coupeville was suspended Tuesday night after the ferry Chetzemoka went aground.
High winds and strong currents helped push the ferry onto a sand bar west of Coupeville, KIRO 7 TV reported.
No injuries were reported, Washington State Ferries spokeswoman Marta Coursey said.
Some people aboard said they felt a bump, but most passengers and crews didn’t feel anything, she said.
There were no immediate signs of damage to the ferry, but divers were at work checking it out, she said. Ferry service for that run was already canceled for Wednesday due to tidal conditions.
The passengers were loaded off safely, and the ferry is no longer on the sandbar, according to KIRO.
Travelers are advised to take the Edmonds/Kingston or Mukilteo/Clinton routes instead.
