Beginning Sunday, a 25 percent peak-season surcharge (except in the San Juan Islands) for full fare car and driver ferry tickets will go into effect, but at last year’s prices.
The surcharge for the Anacortes to San Juan Island routes is 35 percent for car and driver and 20 percent for passenger fares.
Additional fare increases that could go into effect June 1 will be discussed by the state Transportation Commission at a public hearing at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Puget Sound Regional Council Board Room, 1011 Western Ave. in Seattle.
Boeing workers spruce up Sherwood
Dozens of workers were expected to join Boeing Employees Community Service Day on Saturday at Sherwood Community Services in Everett to do landscaping and cleanup work.
Sherwood has been a Boeing project for years. Engineers even designed and built a cat-proof sandbox for the playground.
Sherwood provides services to children and adults with disabilities.
New trail ready at Deception Pass
Pacific Northwest Trail Association and the state Parks and Recreation Commission opened a new trail and trailhead at Deception Pass State Park on Saturday on the Fidalgo Island side of the park.
The two-mile Pass Lake Trail will offer visitors a look at some of the park’s back country.
Snohomish honors senior volunteers
During National Volunteer Week last week, Snohomish Senior Center honored 60 volunteers who work 25 programs and services at the Snohomish Senior Center.
In 2004 volunteers donated 6,267 hours. Dedicated volunteers are the heart of the organization, said Executive Director Karen Charnell.

Nextel will offer free rides to the public in two full-motion NASCAR simulators from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 29 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 outside Nextel’s retail store near Target in Greentree Plaza, 505 SE Everett Mall Way. A story that appeared in Saturday’s business section on Page C2 listed an incorrect date for the event.
