MARYSVILLE — Just before midnight Sunday, Mel Smith said she heard gunshots across 116th Street NE. The popping sound was followed by a woman’s cries for help.
“She was screaming,” Smith said. The sound was “blood-curdling.”
Marysville police Monday were trying to put together what led to the violence late Sunday outside of Winco Foods in the 3900 block of 116th Street NE.
An Arlington woman, 31, was seriously hurt in a robbery in the grocery store’s parking lot, Marysville Police Lt. Darin Rasmussen said.
The woman apparently was attacked by a man with a gun, he said.
Police didn’t elaborate whether the woman was shot, pistol-whipped or hurt some other way. Police do believe shots were fired, based on witness accounts. No shell casings were recovered.
The man grabbed the woman’s purse and ran off.
“We expect that this is an isolated incident,” Rasmussen said. Detectives believe the woman knows her attacker.
The woman made it into the store where help was summoned. She was taken by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
She suffered injuries to her face and was released late Monday.
Detectives are reviewing surveillance video, Rasmussen said.
Smith said the incident was upsetting. Police swarmed her neighborhood as they looked for a suspect.
No arrests were by late afternoon Monday .
