Paving is expected to start this first week of April on the new Highway 532 Davis Slough Bridge.
After several weather-related delays, state contractor crews are hoping for fair weather to finish the project off. The bridge is the only one linking Camano Island to the mainland. The new bridge was originally expected to be done last fall.
Paving work is “weather permitting.” Once started, crews will work on the closed northern half of the highway during the day while drivers use the southern half. At night, crews will switch to the southern half, with flaggers controlling traffic through the work zone. Night-time work is expected from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
When the paving is complete, the asphalt will need to cure for three weeks before final striping can be added. Traffic will shift onto the northern half of the bridge with temporary markings so contractor crews can finish up work on the southern half of the roadway.
