MILL CREEK — An electrical short in an extension cord likely sparked a roof fire that caused about $20,000 damage to a church north of Mill Creek this morning.
Firefighters were alerted by a garbage truck driver who called 911, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.
As crews arrived, they could see flames licking at the roof of the Christian Faith Center in the 13000 block of 21st Drive SE, she said.
No one was inside the building and there were no injuries. Crews from Fire Districts 1 and 7 responded. Firefighters used a ladder truck to access the roof and quickly extinguished the fire.
“The fire damage was limited to a narrow strip on the roof about 4 feet wide and 75 feet long,” Hynes said. “There was no fire damage inside the building.”
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s office investigated and found a short in an extension cord that was used to power spotlights mounted on the front of the building.
