SEATTLE — The firefighter severely injured in an eastern Washington wildfire flare-up that killed three of his comrades is out of intensive care and in rehabilitation at a Seattle hospital.
Harborview Medical Center spokeswoman Susan Gregg said Tuesday that Daniel Lyon, 25, has had all the major burn-related surgeries he needs and is in satisfactory condition.
Lyon suffered burns on more than 60 percent of his body Aug. 19. Since then, officials say he has endured skin grafts and constant pain.
In September, doctors said they expect Lyon to make a full recovery.
Tom Zbyszewski, 20; Andrew Zajac, 26; and Richard Wheeler, 31, died in the same flare-up near Twisp after their engine crashed down an embankment and was caught by the quickly moving fire.
