CLEARVIEW — Fireworks are believed to have sparked a $2 million fire Tuesday evening that tore through a home.
Crews were called around 5:35 p.m. to a home in the 5100 block of 176th Street SE, Snohomish County Fire District 7 spokeswoman Autumn Waite said.
Flames already were jumping out of the home’s roof when firefighters arrived, she said.
Wind fueled the blaze, making it difficult to get under control. It took crews more than 90 minutes to contain the flames, Waite said.
The homeowner called 911 after seeing smoke. The family and a dog immediately got out. Two cats were rescued by firefighters.
Firefighters also saved a classic car and a BMW from the garage and other family memorabilia from the home, Waite said.
Investigators from the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s office believe fireworks started the blaze, she said. People in the neighborhood heard fireworks throughout the day on the street behind the home.
Preliminary damage estimates are around $2 million.
More than 30 firefighters battled the blaze including crews from Fire Districts 26, 3 and 1.
“Use extreme caution this Fourth of July,” Waite said. “Keep it safe and legal.”
