EVERETT — A former Monroe High School teacher was arrested for a second time Thursday, about 10 months after first being taken into custody and released on bond in a series of sexual misconduct allegations involving students.
Monroe detectives arrested Giles Stanton this week after investigating a former student’s statements, police said in a press release.
Stanton was booked into King County Jail for investigation of two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and one count of rape of a child.
The woman alleged the suspect initiated a relationship with her while she was still a minor in late 2018, the release said. She told police the interactions began during school hours while she was a student and continued through her senior year. Though physical contact ended after she moved out of state, she reported the teacher continued to send her letters — many sexual in nature — after graduation.
Monroe Police Chief Jeff Jolley said the latest arrest was made without incident.
“This is a very disturbing case involving a pattern of a person in a position of trust who betrayed young women,” Jolley said in the release. “Thanks does not seem sufficient to say to these victims whose bravery helped us make yesterday’s arrest.”
In June 2024, Monroe police first arrested Stanton following a months-long investigation. Prosecutors filed charges against Stanton of two counts of first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor based on a 2017 relationship with a student.
One student reported Stanton groomed her beginning when she was a sophomore, according to court documents. By her junior year, she said, he read her romantic poems, assigned “Lolita” in class and left typed love notes in the book.
She alleged Stanton sexually abused her multiple times in various locations, including his house, his car and hotel rooms. She said the abuse left her with injuries requiring medical attention, according to court documents.
Stanton would host dinner parties, book clubs and other events at his house, inviting current and former students, detectives wrote. Emails from his school account through a search warrant revealed frequent and intimate contact with former students.
In interviews with police, Stanton admitted to having sexual relationships with multiple former students, though he claimed all of them occurred after graduation, documents said.
After his June arrest, Everett District Court Judge Anthony Howard set bail at $250,000 which Stanton posted hours later.
