Clint Didier, who played in three Super Bowls with the Washington Redskins, is launching a campaign to unseat incumbent U.S. Sen. Patty Murray.
Didier, a Republican businessman and farmer, announced Sunday he will hold formally kick off his bid with rallies and fund raisers in Everett and Spokane Jan. 11 and in Pasco on Jan. 12.
A press release issued Sunday said Didier “has a “Game Plan for Washington” and is running “to bring responsibility and accountability back to Washington, DC, and to protect our National Security from all enemies foreign or domestic.”
Didier, 50, played tight end for eight seasons in the National Football League, six with the Redskins and two with the Green Bay Packers.
He is the sixth Republican to enter the race against Murray. The others include Sean Corey Salazar of Mountlake Terrace, Craig Lewis Williams, Rodney Joe Rieger, Wayne Glover and Arthur Coday Jr.
Salazar has been in the race the longest and had raised roughly $35,000 as of Sept. 30, 2009. It’s going to take a lot more money to battle Murray, one of the leaders of Senate Democrats who had $4.6 million in her campaign bank account on Oct. 1.
