Day to think oceans

World Oceans Day is planned for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Cama Beach State Park, 1880 S. West Camano Drive on Camano Island.

There will be a low-tide beach walk that morning, more than 20 informational booths, guest speakers, boat rentals, children’s activities and a fire rescue boat demonstration. For more information, e-mail clongdon@verizon.net.

Reprieve for Land Trust: The three banks that own the 664-acre former Trillium woods near Freeland have granted a 90-day deadline extension to Whidbey Camano Land Trust, a non-profit organization leading a community effort to raise $4.2 million to preserve the forest.

As of Thursday, the Land Trust had commitments for $2.4 million from a variety of sources, leaving $1.8 million to raise by Sept. 10. The original purchase deadline was June 10.

Land Trust officials said they are glad for the chance to continue their fundraising efforts.

Free dental care: Edmonds Woodway Dental Care will offer free treatment for people who cannot afford regular dental care during the second annual Day of Caring on Saturday.

Get car seats checked: Snohomish County Fire District 1 folks will check children’s car seats for proper installation during an open house from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Edmonds Fire Station 17, 275 Sixth Ave. N., Edmonds.
