Lincoln leaves today

The USS Abraham Lincoln is scheduled to leave Everett today for about of month of routine training exercises off the coast of Southern California. The ship is expected to return in mid-May.

The aircraft carrier and its 3,000-member crew have been docked in homeport since Jan. 18 except for a short trip to California in February.

The ship spent nine months in the naval shipyard in Bremerton from April of last year until January for maintenance.

Choir sings during benefit: A Voices of Hope Concert and Bake Sale is planned at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, 26900 78th Ave. NW in Stanwood.

Housing Hope’s Stanwood Ambassadors host this 14th annual free concert and bake sale to benefit Housing Hope and the families served at Lervick Family Village in Stanwood.

There will be an opportunity to make a donation to Housing Hope. Thrivent Financial offers a $1,000 match.

Play mini-golf: The North Everett Lions Club is hosting a mini-golf event to raise money for scholarships at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, 2820 Oakes Ave. in Everett.

The club will provide food, drinks and the equipment to play on its outdoor course. For more information, call Barry Martin at 425-257-8355.

Play it safe on April Pools Day: Take a dip at Forest Park Swim Center and learn skills that could save a life. Bring the family to April Pools Day at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at 802 Mukilteo Blvd., Everett.

All ages are invited to play games, try on life jackets, ride in canoes and learn about water safety.
