Garage doors opening?
A number of people reported their garage doors opening and closing Wednesday and Thursday, and it could be connected with activity at Naval Station Everett. The base is taking part in a security exercise this week and next, but it isn’t expected to be using technology likely to affect those radio frequencies, Navy spokeswoman Kristin Ching said. Base personnel have responded to several calls and are investigating, she said.
Hospitals and the mentally ill: Chelene Whiteaker, policy director from the Washington State Hospital Association, is to speak at 11 a.m. Feb. 9 at a meeting of the Snohomish County Republican Women’s Club. Whiteaker will address the state’s challenges treating the mentally ill.

Edmonds starlight beach walk: Learn about marine life in the intertidal zone during a low-tide guided tour at Edmonds’ Olympic Beach Visitor Station on Tuesday night. The event scheduled from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. at 200 Admiral Way. It’s is free and open to all ages. Bring a flashlight. Wear warm layers, rain gear and rubber boots.
WSU’s Beach Watchers program and the Snohomish County Marine Resource Committee organized the walk.
