Rocktoberfest rocks with rocks

The Marysville Rock and Gem Club holds its annual Rocktoberfest Gem and Mineral Show on Saturday and Sunday at Totem Middle School, 1605 Seventh St., Marysville. Doors open at 10 a.m. both days. Admission is free. Find demonstrations, vendors, kids activities, door prizes and more.

Animal shelters open doors

Animal shelters across the area will hold special events as part of an annual Statewide Shelter Open House on Saturday. Some shelters will have adoption specials, raffles, giveaways and other special activities. The Camano Animal Shelter Association will have a free microchip clinic, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., for dogs and cats.

Killer whale show at stream center

Hear some Killer Whale Tales, 1 p.m. Saturday at the Northwest Stream Center at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Gates open at noon for those who want to stroll the elevated nature trail before the show.

Cost is $5 Adopt A Stream Foundation members, $7 non-members, benefiting Streamkeeper Academy. Registration required.

It’s Ecotober in Bothell

Ecotober, a free family festival focused on eco-friendly habits, runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Bothell City Hall Plaza, 18415 101st Ave. NE. See trucks, participate in a bike rodeo, exchange Halloween costumes, make arts and crafts, hear live music and more.

Electronics recycling in Edmonds

A free electronics recycling event is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Edmonds Lutheran Church, 23525 84th Ave. W. Computers, appliances, stereos, barbecues, bicycles and more will be accepted. No televisions, wood, glass, chemicals, hazardous waste, paint, tires or alkaline batteries.

Pet food drive

Boy Scout Troop 180 holds a pet food drive through Saturday to benefit the Marysville Community Food Bank. Donations can be dropped off at the food bank, 4150 88th St. NE, or email mgustaris@msn.com to arrange a pick-up. Scouts will celebrate the Mount Baker Council’s centennial on Saturday with a work party at the food bank in addition to delivering donations.

Dogtober in Everett

Animal Rescue Foundation of Everett, or ARF, holds its annual Rockin’ Paw 5k Fun Run and Walk on Saturday at Langus Riverfront Park, 400 Smith Island Road, Everett. Start time is 9 a.m., day-of registration opens at 8. The event also includes a costume contest, food, games, “der-wiener pool,” entertainment and vendors.
