Make Marvel magnets

Kids ages 11 to 16 are invited to a Tween STEAM Wednesday event to make some Marvel-themed superhero magnets, 3 to 5 p.m. April 11 at the Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. NW. Registration is required.

Mammogram van coming

The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance mammogram van will visit 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 14 at the Everett YMCA, 2720 Rockefeller Ave. Appointments are just 15 minutes and no referral is needed. Women age 40 and older who have not had a mammogram in the past year and are symptom-free of any breast issue are eligible.

Appointments are required.

The visit is sponsored by Safeway and Soroptimist International of Everett.

Get help with college plans

The Lake Stevens Library hosts two college planning workshops for students in grades 8-11 and their parents or guardians. “Building Your College List” is set for 2 p.m. April 14; “Touring a College” is set for 2 p.m. April 21. The library is at 1804 Main St.

Go for a walk

Friends of Camano Island Parks offers a guided community walk at Four Springs Lake Preserve on Saturday. Meet at 9:50 a.m. in the parking lot on Lewis Lane, off Camano Hill Road on the west side of Camano Ridge Road. The walk is about two miles and will take about two hours, rain or shine. A tour of the Four Springs House, Meadow Room and barn also is available. No dogs. Trail booklets available for a $1 donation.

Edmonds-based EPIC Group Writers invites submissions for its annual writing contest on any theme, poetry or prose. Teens can submit for free. Winners will be celebrated May 17 at the Edmonds Library. Submissions are due by Monday.

The 2018 Snohomish County March for Babies aims to raise $150,000. March for Babies Snohomish County takes place April 21, a Saturday, at Legion Memorial Park, 144 Alverson Blvd., Everett. On-site registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the three-mile walk kicking off at 9:30 a.m. Sign up or donate at marchforbabies.org.

Tutors needed at EvCC

Everett Community College’s Volunteer Literacy Program seeks volunteers who can tutor adults learning basic reading, writing and math skills and students learning English. An informal interview and a training workshop are required.

Assist cancer patients

The Cancer Resource Center at the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership seeks volunteers to work weekly four-hour shifts meeting with cancer patients and caregivers to provide support. Drivers also are needed to get cancer patients to treatments and appointments. Volunteers use their own vehicles.
