WAYS TO HELP

Fundraiser for family of injured baby

A fundraiser in Marysville will help the mother of a baby who suffered serious injuries in March.

Fifteen percent of proceeds April 18 at the Marysville Applebee’s, 3702 88th St. NE, will go toward the baby and her family. She was 4 months old when her father, Kenneth Nason, was arrested for investigation of abuse. He’s since been charged, and is accused of inventing a story about falling down the stairs as he held her March 10. She suffered serious, potentially permanent head injuries. Her mother was working at the time.

The event is organized by the Cascade chapter of Guardians of the Children, a motorcycle group that fights child abuse. To participate, donors must bring a flier that’s available on the group’s Facebook page. There will be jars for cash donations, too.

Volunteers needed to prep bikes for kids

Sharing Wheels seeks volunteers to fix bicycles for the annual Kids’ Bike Swap planned for June.

HEADS UP

Wenberg boat launch to open for holidays

The boat launch at Snohomish County’s Wenberg Park is set to open over the Memorial Day and July 4 weekends, brief pauses during a major construction project.

For the rest of the time between May 1 and Sept. 30, the popular launch on Lake Goodwin is set to stay closed as crews work on improvements for boaters, swimmers and other park patrons. The county worked with contractor Strider Construction to coordinate the brief openings.

Over Memorial Day, the launch is scheduled to open from May 25 to 28. The second is set for July 4, which falls on a Wednesday this year, through July 8, the following Sunday.

The closure schedule should allow the county to complete significant upgrades.
