A Daughters of Norway Ester Moe Lodge 39 Nordic Fest is set for 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at South Whidbey High School, 5675 Maxwelton Road, Langley, on Whidbey Island. Hop on the ferry to enjoy Scandinavian culture, with vendors, bakery and boutique, holiday items, raffles, music and dancing. Swedish meatball lunch available. Free parking.

Opioid epidemic focus of upcoming library events
The next Brown Bag Lunch series event focuses on “Families Coping with the Opioid Epidemic,” 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave. Mary Wahl and Val Hickock of Catholic Community Services discuss care for families of opioid abusers. Sno-Isle Libraries will host “Behind the Scenes of ‘Finding Fixes’: The Search for Solutions to the Opioid Epidemic” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Sno-Isle Service Center, 7312 35th Ave. NE, Marysville. The podcast, a project of Seattle-based InvestigateWest, looks at how communities and agencies across Snohomish County are coming together to respond.

EdCC to recognize WWI veterans
Edmonds Community College hosts its annual Veterans Day Celebration, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Black Box Theatre in Mukilteo Hall on the college campus.
Veterans from surrounding communities who served during times of war and peace are invited to attend. There will be a special tribute to World War I veterans on the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day. U.S. Navy veteran Jim Blossey will be the master of ceremonies.

Pet photos with Santa
The Camano Animal Shelter Association holds its annual Pictures with Santa from 10 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Skagit Farmers Country Store in Stanwood, 8815 272nd St. NW. Cost is $20 and includes a CD with four images. Cash or check only. All proceeds benefit CASA.

Veterans dinner offered
The Camano Chapel HIS Veterans Day Dinner is 6-8 p.m. Friday at 867 SW Camano Drive, Camano Island. WWII veteran Emmit Glanz will speak about his military service and his father’s service in WWI.
The dinner is free for veterans and their families and those who support veterans services.
