New captain for USS Nimitz
Capt. John C. Ring will take command of the USS Nimitz from Rear Adm. Jeff S. Ruth during a change-of-command ceremony Tuesday at 10 a.m. The ceremony will be conducted aboard the aircraft carrier while in port at Naval Station Everett.
The carrier will be firing its cannon as a traditional salute. Practice salutes can be expected Monday.
Ruth has commanded the Nimitz since March 2012. He is to become the new commander of Navy Region Northwest in Bangor.
Ring served as executive officer of the Nimitz from October 2009 to June 2011. He is a native of San Diego and was commissioned via the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Arizona. Following flight training in Pensacola, Florida, he was designated a naval flight officer in 1990.

Goatalympics: The Goatalympics, a fundraiser for the New Moon Farm Goat Rescue and Sanctuary in Arlington, is set for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 12 in the judging arena at the east end of the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, 14405 179th Ave. SE, Monroe.
