A free hands-on demonstration featuring real human organs is planned this weekend at the Mill Creek Festival to show how lifestyle choices affect the body’s organs.
This demonstration, “Inside Out – The Original Organ Show,” will be at the Providence Regional Medical Center booth from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The Providence Regional booth is located on the corner of Mill Creek Boulevard and 161st Street.
Inside Out features Providence nurses and respiratory therapists using real human organs to explain the effects of life style choices. Organs on display are: an aorta with fatty plaque build-up, tar-laden lungs from smoking, a heart with a bullet hole, the frailty of the brain and spinal cord when a helmet isn’t worn, a hardened liver from alcohol abuse, a cancerous tongue from chewing tobacco and many more.
The booth also will offer health information and demonstrations, including height, weight and BMI readings. Also available will be Sim Man, the speaking mannequin used for CPR training.

Ice cream social: It’s called “A Midsummer’s Ice Cream: An ice cream social for the whole neighborhood.”
Trinity Lutheran College plans an ice cream social from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday on the ground floor of its college college at 2802 Wetmore Ave.
The college will provide free ice cream and live music — open-mic style — for whoever shows up. And although the college is affiliated with local churches, organizers are not planning any sermons or praise songs. It is meant to be a welcoming event for the sake of the entire community.
