Food bank needs help
Donations are down and shelves are looking bare at Sky Valley Food Bank, which feeds almost 4,500 people a month, nearly half of them children.
In summer, children are out of school with no free or reduced lunches. No donation is too small.
Donations may be made at 233 Sky River Parkway in Monroe, mailed to Sky Valley Food Bank at P.O. Box 724, Monroe, 98272, or on-line at www.svfoodbank.org.
Shelter needs pet supplies: It’s puppy and kitten season and that means a lot of furry critters will end up at the Everett Animal Shelter needing extra care before adoption. The Animal Shelter is accepting “pet nursery” items such as puppy and kitten milk replacement formula (powder), potty training pads and heating pads (must be in good condition).
Drop off donations at the Everett Animal Shelter, 333 Smith Island Road in Everett.
Honoring “Scoop”: Next month will be the 100th anniversary of the birth of Henry M. Jackson.
To mark the occasion, Herald reporter Jerry Cornfield is gathering stories of those who crossed paths, even briefly, with the Everett native who grew up to become a powerful U.S. senator and one of the most significant political figures in the state’s history.
If you have a funny anecdote or a memorable photo to share, please send Cornfield an email at jcornfield@heraldnet.com with your contact information.
