The start of a new year brings many new things, including new life.
Swedish/Edmonds welcomed its first New Year’s baby Jan. 1 at 4:32 a.m. The baby girl named, Anaiah, weighed 7 lbs. 6 oz. and measured 19.5 inches long. She was born to proud parents Lissette Albarracin-Mendez and Carlos Mendez of Edmonds, who have one other child. The delivering physician was Rachel Hollister.
In celebration of the special occasion, the Swedish/Edmonds Gift Shop donated a newborn gift basket to the Mendez family.
In 2012, there were 1,142 deliveries in The Childbirth Center at Swedish/Edmonds, a public hospital.
Special Zonta meeting: The Zonta Club of Everett will be holding their annual Amelia Earhart luncheon at noon Jan. 17 at the Everett Gold &Country Club, 1500 52nd St, Everett.
At the time of her disappearance, Amelia Earhart was a member of Zonta International and clubs worldwide celebrate her accomplishments in the aviation field each January. In 1938, Zonta International established the Amelia Earhart Fellowship in her honor. Since the program’s inception, Zonta has awarded 1,368 Amelia Earhart Fellowships, totaling $8 million, to women from 68 countries.
The guest speaker at this year’s luncheon will be Capt. Heather P Ross, a 787 Engineering Project Pilot for the Boeing Co. Her presentation will be on what it is like to be a test pilot.
