Nimitz takes cruise

The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz on Monday pulled away from its pier in Everett. The warship is headed for a training run to San Diego and a stop in the San Francisco Bay area for the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The nearly 3,000-member crew of the Nimitz is set to return to Everett some time in May. People can follow the progress of the Nimitz on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/cvn68.

Vote Tuesday: If you vote in the Lakewood or Stanwood-Camano school districts, Tuesday is the deadline to get your school levy ballot turned in. In Stanwood, the school board is running a four-year renewal of the property tax levy that expires in December. More information is at www.stanwood.wednet.edu.

In Lakewood, the ballot has two measures: a four-year replacement school operations levy and a two-year capital projects measure. More information is at www.lwsd.wednet.edu.

In addition, voters in unincorporated areas of south Snohomish County are being asked to vote on whether their neighborhoods, located north, east and west of the city of Bothell, should be annexed into the city.

Ballots can be dropped until 8 p.m. at Arlington Library, 135 N. Washington Ave.; Everett Courthouse Campus. Rockefeller Avenue and Wall Street; and Lynnwood Library, 19200 44th Ave. W.

Mail tax forms until midnight: Everett is the only location in Snohomish County where tax returns can be mailed until midnight to make Tuesday’s tax filing deadline. The IRS has extended the filing deadline to Tuesday.

Tax forms may be deposited in collection boxes until midnight at the Everett Mail Processing Facility, 8120 Hardeson Road.

This is the same facility the U.S. Postal Service announced it plans to close later this year.
