Gov. Christine Gregoire made a friendly wager Wednesday with Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer on the outcome of today’s NCAA tournament game in Boise, Idaho.
The No. 1-seeded University of Washington Huskies play the No. 16-seeded University of Montana Grizzlies in the Albuquerque division of the tournament bracket.
Gregoire offered a box of Washington Fuji apples, while Schweitzer put up eight rib steaks.
“There are eight steaks coming my way,” Gregoire said confidently. “I’m making this bet because I know the Huskies will come out on top.”
Few green lights on St. Paddy’s Day
According to The Irish Times, things aren’t so different in Ireland when it comes to commuter traffic.
Traffic in Dublin and Cork, Ireland, could be a nightmare for commuters today as St. Patrick’s Day parades close roads all along the route.
It’s fun to read some of the names of the streets, including Granby Row, Patrick’s Street, Dominic Street Upper, Mountjoy Street, St. Mary’s Place North, O’Connell Street, College Green, Dame Street, Lord Edward Street, Christchurch Place, Clanbrassil Street Lower, Half Moon Street, St. Patrick’s Quay and St. Patrick’s Hill.
And, just like here, police patrols will be out in force to catch speeders and drunken drivers.
Survivors seek out American liberators
Survivors of the Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp for political prisoners in Nordhausen, Germany, during World War II plan a 60th anniversary liberation ceremony and celebration April 11.
Anyone connected with the liberation by American forces is asked to send an e-mail to info.europe@ gomilspec.com.
At the observance, a new concentration camp museum will be opened, and visitors will meet former concentration camp inmates and their families.
