They’re paid just $10 a day and reimbursed mileage for driving to the courthouse.

Although not highly paid, about 60,000 people summoned in 2004 to be jurors were an integral part of the justice system. Area judges applaud them during this week’s Juror Appreciation Week.

You may be called to serve as a juror if you have a Washington driver’s license or identification card or are a registered voter. You will be asked to serve one week or one trial at the Snohomish County Courthouse or other courts scattered around the county.

“The judges of Snohomish County greatly appreciate the service our citizens provide all year, every year,” said Thomas Wynne, Superior Court presiding judge.

“We also acknowledge the many private companies, government agencies, small businesses, school districts and all those who encourage and support their employees when they are called to jury service,” Wynne said.

Learn all about Camano watershed

To learn about streams, the Camano Island Watershed Program has invited the Adopt-A-Stream Foundation to teach a program about the health of island water.

There will be a workshop at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island. Learn how to adopt a stream by Tom Murdoch, co-author of the Streamkeepers Field Guide.

One of the keys to protecting groundwater is protecting the quality of water in streams and other surface water bodies, Murdoch said. He plans to bring a 6-foot-long character called “Sammy the Salmon” and show a salmon video.

Put the advice to work all day Saturday during Streamkeeper field training.
