Edmonds college president to stay
Edmonds Community College President Jack Oharah has withdrawn his name as a candidate for president of Tulsa Community College in Oklahoma.
Oharah interviewed there last week and was one of four finalists.
“I just thought about it over the weekend,” he said. “I put my finger in the wind in terms of all of the issues and decided I had lots of good support here.”
And speaking of college presidents
The Everett School Board has postponed a meeting scheduled for tonight to discuss its response to a faculty vote to censure Everett Community College President Charlie Earl.
The meeting has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Monday in the Olympus Board Room at the college, 2000 Tower St., Everett.
Come talk about development issues
The nonprofit Cascade Land Conservancy on Thursday kicks off a conversation about developing a long-term plan for protecting the environment in a developer-friendly manner. All Snohomish County residents are invited to attend the 6 p.m. meeting at Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave.
Fire danger high despite recent rain
Gov. Gary Locke warned Tuesday that wildfire and drought threats have not evaporated despite the rain that has fallen on most of Washington the past month.
The state Department of Natural Resources has responded to 129 wildfires since March – 70 in April alone. In a normal April, the department typically responds to about 20 fires.
Locke urged homeowners who live in wooded areas to remove potential fuel sources such as brush and woody debris to protect their homes and property.
With conditions so dry, the governor also emphasized a need to be careful with fireworks during the Fourth of July holiday.
