The Assistance League of Everett offers to help with graduation expenses for high school seniors.

"Some families simply don’t have the financial ability to cover the graduation- related expenses for cap and gown, senior photos, announcements and the senior party," said Barb Richer, graduation awards chairwoman. "These students have worked very hard in order to be able to graduate and should have the opportunity to participate in senior activities along with their fellow classmates."

Last year, the league gave $200 each to 65 graduating seniors who showed financial need.

Students can apply through high school scholarship counselors. Applications are due March 12.

The class discusses U.S. history, government and prepares participants for the oral citizenship test and citizenship interview.

The class costs $89 and includes application and study materials, individual guidance and free admission to future courses until citizenship is earned. Students must have a valid Alien Registration Card.

  • The resignation of the remaining three Monroe ethics board members was effective Feb. 9. They resigned because they disagreed with the City Council’s recent change of position on its ethics ordinance. Another member resigned earlier and the fifth decided not to seek reappointment.
