The Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation is prepared to give away $3,150 to nonprofit organizations that perform work in Stanwood and Camano Island areas.

Applications are due April 15, and the money will be awarded at the end of May.

"We are able to make these grants due to a generous bequest from Willard Gordon, a Stanwood High School alumni," said Carolyn Kriegel, the foundation’s executive director. For information and application packets, visit www.s-caf.orgor call 360-629-6878.

The Silvana Community Association offers bingo at

7 p.m. Saturday at Viking Hall, 1330 Pioneer Highway in Silvana. The cost is $10. There will be cash prizes and door prizes; refreshments will be available.

All ages are welcome. Money raised will be used to repair hall flood damage.

According to the U.S. Postal Service, 96 percent of mail is delivered on time for ZIP codes that start with 980, 981, 982, 984 and 985.

Postal Service consumer advocate Francia Smith said 95 percent of first-class mail arrived on time during the holiday season, Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, and customer satisfaction measured 93 percent. Customer satisfaction was measured by the Gallup Organization.

Three high school students won scholarships in the Henry Cogswell College visual arts contest, which was part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Prodigies for Peace visual arts contest sponsored by the MLK Community Celebration Committee.

Chris Hanson of Stanwood High School won first place and a $20,000 Cogswell photography scholarship. Marika Timmerman of Meadowdale High School won second place and a $10,000 scholarship, and Stephanie Bushnell of the Home School Association won a $5,000 scholarship.

The works reflected one or more of the aspects of King’s life, his message and his ongoing influence on our society, said Ken Rowe, Dean of Cogswell’s School of Digital Arts.

Entries were judged by a faculty committee.

A new natural gas pipeline will be built near Catherine Creek just outside Lake Stevens. The creek’s name was wrong in a story that appeared on Page B1 Tuesday.
