Today is fee free in national forests

It’s National Trails Day. Visit the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest day-use sites for free.

These sites normally require a fee or recreation pass, such as the Northwest Forest Pass, Golden Access Passport or an interagency pass.

Scooters may need motorcycle license

As gas prices soar, some drivers are turning to fuel-efficient motor scooters to commute and run errands. The Department of Licensing reminds drivers that most scooters, known in state law as mopeds or motorcycles, require riders to have a motorcycle endorsement.

State law requires operators of any two- or three-wheel vehicles capable of traveling faster than 30 mph to have a motorcycle endorsement on their driver’s licenses, regardless of the size of the vehicle’s engine.

A regular driver’s license is OK if the moped travels 30 mph or less and has an engine smaller than 50 cc.
