Workshop shows city’s plan for park

The Snohomish Park Board gives a presentation on developing Harryman’s Farm Park, a 7.5-acre site in the city, at 7 tonight at the fire station training center, 1525 Ave. D. The workshop focuses on creating a neighborhood park without harming the environment.

Health inequity is meeting topic

A two-hour community event on health inequities is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in the multipurpose room at Frank Wagner Elementary School, 115 Dickinson Road, Monroe.

It will include a 30-minute segment from the PBS documentary “Unnatural Causes,” which focuses on the health of Mexican immigrants in the United States. A discussion on what action to take will follow. Ideas will be presented in a report to Snohomish County health care organizations.

This free event is open to the public. Interpretation in Spanish will be available, but requests must be made prior to the event by calling 425-513-2880.

Event sponsors include Communities of Color Coalition, the Monroe Diversity Council, the Monroe School District, Familias Unidas, South Everett Neighborhood Center, YMCA of Snohomish County and SeaMar Community Health Centers.

Still ways to aid flood victims

Flood victim relief continues for those in southwest Washington who still need help.

Help 4 Hard Times director Anna Brown said hers is the only agency left still offering help with furniture, appliances, household items and more in Lewis County.

Author of teen novels in Mukilteo

Terry Trueman will visit the Mukilteo Library at 7 p.m. Thursday for a talk and book signing. The event is free.

Trueman is the author of “Stuck in Neutral,” the book selection for the first-ever Mukilteo Teens Read project, a joint initiative by Sno-Isle Libraries, the Mukilteo School District and Everett Public Library.

“Stuck in Neutral” tells the story of 14-year-old Shawn, who has cerebral palsy and suspects his father is planning to kill him. Trueman, the father of a son with cerebral palsy, is also the author of several other novels.
