Hearts on Fire in Lake Stevens
Hearts on Fire, a fundraiser for the Lake Stevens Fire Department, is planned for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.
Off-duty firefighters will deliver flowers on Valentine’s Day, ordered from the Lake Stevens Haggen Food &Pharmacy store for their Aid Medic Fund.

Scout helping troops in Iraq
Brian Stone, sophomore at Henry M. Jackson High School in Mill Creek, is attempting to earn Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout.
After getting to know a U.S. Marine from Stanwood, Brian began a mission to fill and ship 100 care packages to troops in Iraq. The care packages will contain beef jerky, socks, trail mix, hand warmers, candy and DVDs.
He needs help with donations, and letters of support to tuck in each package.

Mill Creek Library gets new carpet
The Mill Creek Library, 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway, will be closed through Sunday while workers install new carpeting.
It is scheduled to reopen at 10 a.m. Monday.
Meanwhile, don’t use the book drop. People who need to return books from the library can take them to any Sno-Isle library branch.
Books and other materials that have been placed on hold will be available when the library reopens.
Learn about Running Start
Everett Community College hosts a Running Start information session at 6 p.m. Monday at 2000 Tower St. in Everett.
College staff will discuss how to apply, options for full and part-time enrollment and student life. Learn more about program options, such as business, engineering and university transfer and the ORCA program in marine biology.
Running Start is a partnership program between colleges and high schools. The program is available to eligible high school juniors and seniors. Students may apply college credit to their high school graduation requirements. For more information, call 425-388-9211 or 425-388-9219.
