A postal station is reopening at the former Wileywood Nursery on the Bothell-Everett Highway one mile south of Mill Creek.

The Herald wrote Oct. 24 about the station’s temporary closing after a $16,000 theft of stamps.

Mayor to show students City Hall

Students at Hillcrest Elementary will have an opportunity to learn about Lake Stevens City Hall from city officials.

Mayor Vern Little and his crew are scheduled to visit the school’s third-grade class at 1 p.m. Tuesday. As part of the social studies curriculum, students wrote letters to different offices in City Hall with a question in each letter. Little and others plan to answer those questions in person.

Learn about garden insects

The Monroe Garden Club plans to meet at 1 p.m. today at the Monroe United Methodist Church, 342 S. Lewis St.

Dave Pehling, Washington State University analyst and entomologist, is expected to speak on “Living with Garden Insects.” The public is welcome.

Where are the bears

Nan Laney, Bear Smart Program coordinator, is scheduled to give a free presentation about grizzly bears and black bears that live in Washington at 7 tonight at the Granite Falls Library, 815 E. Galena St.

Laney will talk about how people can avoid attracting bears to their yards and will speak about the status of bear recovery in the North Cascades.

Underage drinking topic of meeting

The public is invited to a town hall meeting on underage drinking at 6:30 tonight in the library at Henry M. Jackson High School, 1508 136th St. SE, Mill Creek.

The event, sponsored by PTA groups at Cascade and Jackson high schools in the Everett School District, is the sixth in a series of free workshops focusing on parents and teens.

A light dinner will be served, followed by the program at 7 p.m.
